Okay, so, I’ve been getting into collecting sports cards lately, and you know, everyone’s always talking about those super rare and valuable rookie cards. Got me thinking, what about Patrick Mahomes? He’s like, the biggest name in football right now. So, I started digging into this whole Patrick Mahomes rookie card thing.
First, I hit up some forums and collector websites. Just trying to get a feel for what cards were even out there for him. Turns out, there’s a bunch! Like, a whole lot. Different brands, different designs, some with autographs, some with pieces of his jersey, it’s crazy. It was difficult for me to distinguish these cards with bare eyes.
Then I started checking out what these cards were actually selling for. I looked at recent completed listings of some major websites, and man, some of these prices are insane! We’re talking thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars for certain cards. It’s wild to think that a piece of cardboard with a picture of a football player on it could be worth that much.
So I narrowed it down to a few specific cards that seemed to be the most popular and valuable. The 2017 National Treasures card, the one with his autograph and a jersey patch, that’s like the holy grail. I saw one sell recently for over $4 million! Can you believe that?

But even some of the more “common” Mahomes rookie cards, like the ones from the regular Panini Prizm or Donruss Optic sets, those are still going for a pretty penny. I found some selling for hundreds, even over a thousand dollars, depending on the condition and whether they were graded by one of those professional grading companies.
After all this research, I decided to try and snag one for myself. I wasn’t about to drop thousands of dollars, but I found a decent-looking Prizm rookie card on an online auction site for a couple hundred bucks. Figured it was worth a shot, you know? Maybe it’ll be worth a lot more someday.
I won the auction, and let me tell you, I was stoked when that card arrived in the mail. It’s nothing super fancy, but it’s a Patrick Mahomes rookie card! Now it’s sitting proudly in my collection, and who knows, maybe one day it’ll help me retire early. Or at least, that’s what I’m hoping. It is hard to say.
