So, I’ve been messing around with Clash Royale for a while now. Ladder got kinda grindy, you know? Same decks over and over. Decided to jump into 2v2 more often, just for kicks and to play with my buddy sometimes.

Man, at first, it was rough. Really rough. We were just throwing our usual ladder decks together, and it was a disaster most of the time. Elixir costs all over the place, zero synergy. One guy runs Lava Hound, the other runs Golem… just asking for trouble. Got wrecked by simple Hog Cycle pairs because we couldn’t defend anything properly.

Trying Stuff Out

Okay, so I figured just winging it wasn’t cutting it. Started actually thinking about what makes a good 2v2 deck pair. Watched some replays, saw what other folks were doing. The main thing seemed to be having decks that cover each other’s butts.

I spent a good few evenings just trying different combos with my friend. We’d hop into matches, see what failed, tweak things, try again. Lots of trial and error, let me tell you.

We found some stuff that kinda clicked. Like, one of us running a heavy beatdown deck, maybe Giant or Golem, and the other running something faster with good splash defense and maybe direct damage spells. Think Valkyrie, Baby Dragon, Fireball, stuff like that.

This worked better because:

  • The faster deck could handle the early pushes or annoying small troops.
  • The beatdown deck could build up that big push later on, and the partner could support it or defend the other lane.
  • Having lots of splash damage seemed super important because 2v2 gets crazy spammy sometimes. Wizard, Bowler, Executioner… they pull their weight.

Another thing we tried was both running slightly cheaper cycle decks, but making sure we had different win conditions and good defensive overlaps. Like one person has Hog Rider, the other has Miner Poison. It keeps the pressure on, but you gotta be really coordinated.

Playing with a friend is way easier, obviously. You can kinda guess what they’re gonna do, or even just yell at each other over voice chat. Playing with randoms… yeah, that’s a gamble. Sometimes you get someone awesome, other times they drop an Elixir Golem right into a Pekka. You just gotta adapt on the fly and hope for the best. Try and support whatever nonsense they’re doing, I guess.

What I Stick With Now

Nowadays, if I’m playing with my regular partner, we usually go for that beatdown + splash support combo. It feels pretty reliable. We tweaked the specific cards a bunch, obviously, depends on the meta a bit. Found a Golem + Night Witch push supported by something like Executioner Tornado works wonders if you can get it going.

If I’m just jumping in with randoms, I tend to pick a more versatile deck myself. Something with good defense, maybe a building, decent splash, and a reliable win condition like Miner or Hog. That way, I can hopefully cover some weaknesses no matter what my partner brings. It’s less about the perfect combo and more about just trying not to be a liability. Still hit or miss, but feels better than just throwing random cards out there like I used to.

Anyway, that’s been my journey trying to figure out 2v2 decks. Still learning, still tweaking, but definitely doing better than when I started.
