Well now, let me tell ya a bit about the height of them NFL quarterbacks. Y’know, the fellas who throw them footballs all across the field, dodgin’ and weavin’ between big ol’ linemen. From what I’ve heard, the average height of these quarterbacks is about 6 feet 3 inches. Yup, that’s right. Most of ‘em are around that height, give or take a little bit. Now, don’t go thinkin’ just cause they’re tall that makes ‘em the best. It’s more about what they can do with that ball in their hand than how high they can reach on a shelf, if you ask me.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Some of these quarterbacks, they’re giants! I’m talkin’ ’bout the likes of Dan McGwire, a fella who stood a whole 6 feet 8 inches tall. Can you believe that? You’d almost think he could reach up and pick apples from the highest tree. And then there’s Eddie LeBaron, bless his heart, he was on the shorter side at only 5 feet 7 inches. But don’t let that fool ya, ‘cause he still managed to do alright for himself in the game.

Why does height matter for a quarterback? Well, let me tell ya, it’s not just for show. A taller quarterback’s got a better chance of seeing over them big linemen who are tryin’ to block his view. You see, these linemen are often over 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighin’ in at well over 300 pounds. So if a quarterback’s short, like Eddie LeBaron, it can be a real challenge tryin’ to get a good look at the field. That’s why most of ‘em are around that 6’3″ mark. They need to see everything and have that good ol’ vantage point to make them long throws.

Now, not all the successful quarterbacks are giant men. Take someone like Drew Brees, who’s not all that tall either, but he was one of the best. He played with what he had, and that’s what a good quarterback does. They work with their strengths, whether that be their arm, their brain, or their height. And then there’s folks like Russell Wilson, or even Doug Flutie—those fellas weren’t giants either, but they sure knew how to play the game.

Who’s the tallest quarterback now? Well, if we’re talkin’ today, it’s Justin Herbert, standin’ tall at 6 feet 6 inches. You could say he’s a bit of a big fella in the quarterback world. With a height like that, he don’t have too much trouble seeing over them linemen. But again, it’s not just about being tall. It’s about how you use your height, and your arm, and your smarts to get that ball to the right spot.

Now, you might wonder, “What’s the average weight of one of them quarterbacks?” Well, you’re lookin’ at around 225 pounds. Ain’t too shabby for a fella who’s gotta be quick on his feet but still strong enough to take a hit now and then. Them quarterbacks are built like a good ol’ sturdy house, able to stand up to the pressure and keep on throwin’ them passes.

The Average Height of NFL Quarterbacks: What You Need to Know
  • Average height of an NFL quarterback: 6 feet 3 inches
  • Tallest quarterback in history: Dan McGwire (6 feet 8 inches)
  • Shortest quarterback in history: Eddie LeBaron (5 feet 7 inches)
  • Most common height: 6 feet 3 inches
  • Current tallest quarterback: Justin Herbert (6 feet 6 inches)

What does all this mean for a quarterback? Well, in the grand scheme of things, height’s just one piece of the puzzle. A tall quarterback might have the advantage of seeing over the big linemen, but it’s still up to them to make them smart throws, read the defense, and get the ball to the right player. A shorter quarterback can still be mighty successful if they got the brains and the arm to match. It’s not all about how tall you are, but about how you play the game.

So, there ya have it. The average height of an NFL quarterback is 6 feet 3 inches, but there’s a whole range of heights in between. Whether they’re short or tall, it’s all about how they handle that football and lead their team. As for the rest of us, well, we can just keep watchin’ and enjoyin’ the game.
